How to use YouTube live chat

Note that YouTube live chat integration is only available for premium users

Setting up a link to your YouTube account

  • Go to the Connections screen and press the Connect to YouTube button.
  • In this screen you can now paste your YouTube channel ID. You can look that up by pressing on the link in the screen, or go to this webpage: https://www.youtube.com/account_advanced

Connecting to your YouTube livestream

YouTube works a little bit different than Twitch and Kick. Each livestream has it’s own chat. In order to see YouTube chat in Stream buddy, you have to be live and the livestream has to be set to public.

The messages in the chat indicate the connection status of YouTube:

  • Connected to YouTube chat service
    Stream buddy is connected to the chat service.
  • Connected to YouTube livestream: {video id}
    Stream buddy has connected to the livestream chat and you can now see new messages.
  • Disconnected from YouTube livestream: {video id}
    Stream buddy is no longer connected to the livestream chat and wont see new messages.
  • Lost connection to YouTube chat service
    Stream buddy has lost connection to the chat service.

You can also follow up on the status by using the YouTube - Uptime item on the Information bar

  • No livestream found
    Connected to the chat service, but service can’t find a public live stream on the channel.
  • Time
